Transferable Skills Seminar
- How to use AI in your research - update on Big Data and AI trends in academia
This transferable skills seminar is targeted for researchers (MC, DC, PD, faculty member).
Seminar will be conducted in English.
Big Data and AI have become popular buzzwords in recent years. More and more researchers reach for tools and methods brought by the technological advances of both fields but there are still many misconceptions on what currently can and cannot be achieved. In my talk I will present the latest trends by illustrating them with usage examples from different disciplines. I will also show cases where the expectations were not met and where both fields face ethical problems. Knowing both pros and cons of AI and Big Data should help the participants think of new possibilities in finding new approaches, research questions and / or interesting multidisciplinary collaborations. In the last part of my talk I will introduce some insights intended to enhance the understanding of how smart machines will sooner or later become researchers’ unbiased assistants which help collecting data, analyze it, and (possibly) propose their own solutions to given problems.
After the talk, I would like invite participants to a group discussion about how the data-fed machine intelligence could be helpful in their own fields.
