Transferable Skills Seminar - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - (7/27&7/28/2017)

This transferable skills seminar is targeted for young researchers (MC, DC, PD, etc).
Seminar will be conducted in English.

『The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People』 by Franklin Covey Japan

Come and join this two day seminar/workshop by Franklin Covey Japan, a premier executive training institution and the evangelist of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey. If you want to be more effective, either in your research or in your life, you need to do it right. Behavioral change is essential consequence of this type of seminars, thus the program is intentionally divided into two days which will encourage you to reflect upon and observe deeper into yourself.
Because many of you are sensitive to improve yourself and are very highly motivated, the best selling self-help book written by Stephen R. Covey "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" may be very popular among you. Knowledge will emerge into Wisdom when you take "action" based on the knowledge. When it comes to "action", there is habitual practice that you would hardly change. This program will start with seminar with which you would recall the knowledge of this book, and it will be followed by the workshop which will lead you to recognize what is the most effective habitual practice. If your schedule permits, please be sure to attend both days to fully enjoy and capture the entire value of this program.

Habits are powerful forces in our lives. They determine our level of effectiveness or ineffectiveness. The purpose of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is to help you lead your life in a truly effective way. They represent a proven process of personal and interpersonal growth that can have an immediate and lasting impact.
As relevant today as when Stephen R. Covey first wrote them, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is based on principles of effectiveness that endure.

< 7 Habits >
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

" If you apply even one of the 7 Habits today, you can see immediate results; but it's a lifetime adventure - a life promise. " - Stephen R. Covey

Transferable Skills Seminar - Do it Yourself Artificial Intelligence - The latest technologies all the PhDs should know

Transferable Skills Seminar
- Do it Yourself Artificial Intelligence -
The latest technologies all the PhDs should know

This transferable skills seminar is targeted for researchers (MC, DC, PD, faculty member).
Seminar will be conducted in English.

『 In my talk I will present the latest advances in the field of Artificial Intelligence and try to broaden the participant's knowledge on how computers are currently changing our lives and how they are going to influence our near future. I will introduce some techniques from natural language processing, vision recognition and data mining which are becoming available for people who don't have background in computer science. Trends in crowd-sourcing and crowd-funding which change job-markets and invite broader social changes will also be presented. I will give examples of utilizing open-source software in everyday life applications and in non-technological fields of science. In the last part of my presentation I will describe potential problems and challenges the developers and researchers already face or will soon face while automating our daily activities. By showing challenges of simple cleaning robots and advanced self-driving cars I want to pass the participants a message about the need for mixing fields in the era of accelerating innovation. There will be also a small workshop for creative thinking to spark a discussion about the need of shrinking the growing transformational gap between Japan and the rest of the world. 』

Transferable Skills Seminar - Negotiations by Dale Carnegie

Transferable Skills Seminar - Negotiations: A Human Relations Approach -

This transferable skills seminar is targeted for young researchers (DC, PD, etc).
Seminar will be conducted in English.

『Negotiations: A Human Relations Approach』 by Dale Carnegie Training Japan

Our career success depends to a large extent on the trusting, dynamic relationships that you build at every stage of your professional development. By taking a strategic approach to strengthening key relationships, you give yourselves the best opportunity to make strong, lasting connections with influential individuals. These connections help you to have successful outcomes in current situations and lay the groundwork for future career growth and opportunity.

Disagreements, fr om time to time, are not only inevitable, but are a natural dynamic that develops between people. Left unresolved, however, these disagreements and conflicts can waste enormous amounts of your time and energy and can affect the bottom line in lost productivity.

Many people actively try to avoid disagreements to maintain a peaceful and cooperative environment. Yet, you can gain so much from people who have different opinions, if you can learn to view these situations as learning opportunities and deal with them in an agreeable and professional way. In fact, research shows that successfully resolving disagreements and issues with work associates or in your personal life ultimately results in greater mutual respect and a more positive relationship.

Regardless of the position you hold in your organization, your work day is a series of negotiations.
The ability to use all-win negotiation skills can make all the difference in your negotiating success and is essential to influencing people and facilitating constructive, positive relationships.

■ Outline
At the completion of this module, participants will be able to:
・Examine opportunities for positively impacting professional relationships
・Define principles for changing their own behavior to enhance relationships
・Commit to timetables for personal change and relationship improvements
・Identify personal hot buttons and their role in disagreements
・Give others the benefit of the doubt and cushion opinions for greater acceptance
