FAQs from Researchers

 1. Are there elibility requirements for registration in Hi-System?
  --> Any researcher described below is eligible to register in Hi-System:
   - Master's and doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows (PDs) at Hokkaido University
   - Graduates of Hokkaido University
    (provided that not more than 5 years have passed since they completed their
    master's/ doctoral program and they are not employed by a company)
  ◇ If you are not eligible for registration, please send your personal details
    (i.e., graduate school, major, supervisor and contact information)
    to Hi-System by clicking “Inquiries”, so that the Administration Bureau will be able to
    determine whether you'll be allowed to register in the system.

 2. Are there restrictions on the use of the features of Hi-System?
  --> The features available vary depending on the university or laboratory
    to which the researcher belongs or belonged.
    For details, please refer to “Hi-System” in the menu bar on the left.

  ◇ For example, the following features are available to doctoral students
    and postdoctoral fellows (PDs) at Hokkaido University.
    (1) Registration of a self-promotion form
    (2) Searches for and access to information forms of companies that state their hopes and
      needs for postdoctoral researchers
    (3) Access to information on job opportunities for postdoctoral researchers
    (4) Searches for and access to information/data provided
      by the Front Office for Human Resource Education and Development
    (5) SNS for facilitating communication between postdoctoral researchers
      and companies on the website
    (6) “My Page,” for efficient use of the above-mentioned features

 3. How can I modify my login name and other basic information that is registered?
  --> Please follow the following procedure:
    Log in to Hi-System. -->
   “Confirm the registered information of _____” at the top of the “My Page” screen. -->
    Click the “Modify” button.

 4. What is the self-promotion form?How does registering such a form benefit the researcher?
  --> A self-promotion form is a sort of job application form that's used
    for publicizing your strengths as a researcher.
    By registering your self-promotion form,
    you'll be automatically included among the researchers accessible
    by companies registered in Hi-System.
    You might have the opportunity of an internship or employment
    by one of these companies that finds you a promising postdoctoral fellow.
    Please register your self-promotion form if you are interested in taking a position at a company.

 5. I'm not sure what to write on the self-promotion form. Please advise me.
  --> You can update your self-promotion form as needed,
    so you don't have to register a form after filling in every part of the form.
    It is recommended that you start by registering the required items in the form.
    An example of a completed form is shown on the site for registering a self-promotion form,
    in the hope that you might find it informative.


 6. I need to modify the information in my self-promotion form because I've taken a degree, but modification to my status is not possible via “My Page”.
  --> You cannot use “My Page” to change a status that is already registered.

   When you need to modify your status after completing your degree,
   please take a moment to delete the registered information and re-register your updated information.
(If you are using an SSO-ID, please note that you cannot log in to Hi-System after expiration of your SSO-ID. Please log in to Hi-System before your SSO-ID expires and delete your registered information; then use a new SSO-ID to log in and re-register your updated information. Reregistration is available to researchers who have left Hokkaido University within 5 years and are not employed at the moment.

   The re-registration procedure is explained below:

   【Reregistration Procedure】
    1. Deleting the Current Information
      My Page -->
      “Confirm the registered information of ____” in the right upper part of the screen. -->
      Click the “Delete” button.

    2. Selecting the researcher's status, etc. for Re-registration
      Example)
       (1) Researcher needing a change in status from MC to DC student
         Click “Holder of a matriculation number at Hokkaido University
         (e.g. DC or MC student, undergraduate, research student, auditing student)”
       (2) Researcher needing a change in status from DC to PD; and
       (3) PD who is to obtain a new SSO-ID or to forfeit the current SSO-ID
         - Researcher having an SSO-ID:
          Click “PD who is a holder of an SSD-ID given by Hokkaido University”
         - Researcher having no SSO-ID
          Click “Researcher to whom none of the conditions specified above applies,
          or researcher at Kitami Institute of Technology,
          Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine,
          or Muroran Institute of Technology”
       (4) Researcher from a university other than Hokkaido University
         needing a change in status from MC to DC student or from DC student to PD
         Click “Researcher to whom none of the conditions specified above applies,
         or researcher at Kitami Institute of Technology,
         Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine,
         or Muroran Institute of Technology”

*Hi-System no longer accept registration from students and PDs at Kitami Institute of Technology, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Muroran Institute of Technology (Partnership Universities of The Hokkaido University Cooperative Pioneer Development System / HoP-Station).


   Hi-System plans to ask registered researchers to update their information
   in April and October annually.

FAQs from Companies

 1. Are there eligibility
  --> Companies expecting excellent work from postdoctoral researchers are eligible to register.

 2. Are there restrictions on the use of the features of Hi-System?
  --> No, corporate users can use all the features.

  ◇The following features are available to all registered companies:
    (1) Registration of a corporate information form
    (2) Searches for and access to self-promotion forms of postdoctoral researchers
      interested in corporate research
    (3) SNS, for facilitating communication
      between postdoctoral researchers and companies on the website
    (4) “My Page,” for efficient use of the above-mentioned features

 3. How can the registered corporate information be modified?
  --> Please use the following procedure:
    Log in to Hi-System. -->
    “Confirm the registered information of ___” at the top of the “My Page” screen. -->
    Click the “Modify” button.

 4. What is the corporate information form?
  --> A corporate information form is used for publicizing your company.
    By registering a corporate information form,
    you will be automatically included in the companies accessible by researchers
    registered in Hi-System.
    You can also use the form to provide information about your company
    to postdoctoral researchers who are interested in private-sector research.
    Please register your corporate information form
    if your company is interested in employing postdoctoral researchers.
    Please refer to the example of a completed form shown on the site
    for registering a corporate information form.

FAQs about Hi-System

 1. I don't remember my login ID and password.
  --> Please send a request using the “Forgot my login ID/password” form shown on the login screen.
    Your login ID and password will be sent to your registered e-mail address.

 2. Is shared use of a login ID possible?
  --> It depends on the type of user of Hi-System.

  ◇ A user who is a researcher should use a single login ID.
    Researchers are not allowed to share a login ID,
    so every researcher wishing to become a user should register in Hi-System.

  ◇ A company registered in Hi-System should use a single login ID.
    Up to three persons per company who are registered in Hi-System can share a login ID.
    It is the responsibility of each company to manage its login ID and password,
    because they will not be reissued, as a general rule.

    When a different laboratory,
    etc. of the company that is already registered applies for registration in Hi-System,
    the shared use of a login ID will be separately explained.

 3. What is the recommended operating environment?
  --> For using Hi-System safely, you are recommended to use the following browsers:
   - Windows: Internet Explorer 7.x, 8.x, 9.x

    Please note that some of the features of Hi-System might not be available for browsers other than those shown above.

 4. I'm using a Macintosh computer, and I've received a garbled e-mail sent from Hi-System.
  --> In some settings of an e-mail program, messages sent by Hi-System can be garbled.
    Please change the character encoding to enable conversion into Japanese.
